Ata Rangi, meaning "dawn sky" or "new beginning" is a small New Zealand winery with a big reputation for serious Pinot Noir. Located at the southern end of the North Island, it is owned and managed by a family trio - Clive Paton, his wife Phyll and his sister Alison. Clive planted his first vines on a small, stony sheep paddock at the edge of the Martinborough village in 1980 as one of a handful of people who pioneered winegrowing in the area. Ata Rangi Pinot Noir is undoubtedly the flagship wine, and in 2010 was honoured with the inaugural Tipuranga Teitei o Aotearoa or "Grand Cru of New Zealand". With a skilled team in place, including dynamic winemaker Helen Masters, Clive now has more time to focus on his commitment to conservation and to the Ata Rangi alliance with Project Crimson.

We are a small, family-owned vineyard, making limited production hand-crafted wines from our low cropping single block vineyard. We were drawn to the Te Muna valley. It’s a very special place. On the high alluvial terrace of Martinborough’s Huangarua river, its deep gravels, low rainfall, warm days and cool nights make it ideal for growing pinot noir -- we think it is amongst the best in the world, and that’s reflected in our wines.

Established in 2013, Botanic Vineyards is a small Martinborough vineyard set up by viticulturist and winemaker Christopher Reid. Chris has a double degree in viticulture and wine science. His vintage experience includes Martinborough, Hawke's Bay, Nelson, Oregon and Burgundy. Chris' experience had led him to produce elegant, perfumed and site-expressive pinot noir from his small, family-owned vineyard on the Martinborough Terrace. All work on the vineyard is carried out by hand, with an emphasis on managing pests and diseases with vineyard produced fertilisers and biological sprays. The vineyard currently produces one barrel of pinot noir per year. New plantings in 2013 and 2014 will eventually see the total production up to 4 barrels per year.
